Classic Margarita Recipe (Original Style)
Ingredients (1 serving):
2 oz (60 ml) Tequila (preferably 100% agave blanco tequila)
1 oz (30 ml) Cointreau (or other high-quality triple sec)
1 oz (30 ml) Fresh lime juice (about 1 lime)
Optional: 1/4 oz (7 ml) agave syrup or simple syrup (if you prefer a touch of sweetness)
Kosher salt (for rimming the glass)
Lime wedge (for garnish and rimming)
Equipment Needed:
Cocktail shaker
Jigger or measuring tool
Citrus juicer
Margarita or rocks glass
Small plate (for the salt)
Instructions:
Prepare the glass:
Rub a lime wedge around the rim of the glass.
Dip the rim into kosher salt spread on a small plate to coat it. Tap off excess.
Set the glass aside and fill it with ice to chill (optional).
Juice the lime:
Squeeze a fresh lime to get about 1 oz (30 ml) of juice. Fresh juice is key for the best flavor.
Mix the drink:
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
Add 2 oz tequila, 1 oz Cointreau, and 1 oz lime juice.
If you want it slightly sweeter, add a splash of agave syrup or simple syrup.
Shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds until well chilled.
Serve:
Discard the ice in the glass if you used it to chill.
Strain the Margarita into the salt-rimmed glass.
Serve neat (no ice) in a chilled coupe or cocktail glass for a traditional presentation.
Or serve on the rocks (over fresh ice) in a rocks glass if you prefer.
Garnish:
Add a lime wheel or wedge to the rim of the glass for a classic touch.
Tips for the Best Margarita:
Use quality ingredients, especially in a simple cocktail like this.
Don’t use sour mix—fresh lime juice is essential.
Chill your glass beforehand for a more refreshing sip.
Taste and adjust the balance of sweet and sour if needed.
